Police Question Man Over 'Homophobic' Murder

I thought that we had seen the back of this kind of thing in the 80s, but there are two stories in the news today on the same ugly subject. Come on England get a grip and stop this senseless violence.

A suspect is being questioned after a man was stabbed to death in what is thought to have been a homophobic attack.

Police set up tent outside flat where Mr Edwards was murdered
Gerry Edwards, 59, and long-term partner Chris Bevan, 56, were found with knife wounds at the flat they shared in Bromley, southeast London.
Mr Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene while Mr Bevan was taken to hospital, where he is in a critical condition.
Police said two men, aged 59 and 46, were arrested on Wednesday evening and taken to separate police stations in south London for questioning.
The younger man remains in custody but the older one has been released on bail pending further inquiries, the Metropolitan Police said.
Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons said: "A man came to the premises, it would appear, and, from the information given by one of the surviving victims, it was a homophobic attack.
"That is a line of inquiry that we are pursuing.
"That person assaulted them and then made good his escape."
Mr Lyons said the murder scene was near a busy road in a largely residential area and appealed for witnesses.
Unison confirmed Mr Bevan worked as a healthcare assistant and had been a member of the union for a number of years.
General secretary Dave Prentis said: "The murder of Gerry Edwards and the stabbing of Chris Bevan is a terrible act."
He added: "The rise in knife crime across the country is shocking and, if homophobia was the motive behind this crime, it makes the attacks even more senseless."
